About

Greetings! I’m Tim Haag and I’m working on a number of writing experiments, including a Teachable project [I’m not calling it a ‘course’ as it’s more of a ‘come- along-and-watch!’ tour. More on that later.]

Thinking deep, deep thoughts…most likely about dinner.

My background: I have a B.A. in Journalism and covered high school basketball for the Salinas Californian. I authored curriculum guides for teachers and two Internet for Teachers books and have countless stories gathering digital dust on my hard drives.

I taught for 23 years, grades 3-12 [though chiefly grammar school], and, for 11 years, assisted teachers with weaving technology into their curriculum.

Throughout my teaching years, I am most appreciative of my years as a teaching assistant for the Monterey Bay Aquarium and my training in the Essential Elements of Instruction and cooperative learning.

My most impactful training experience, however, has to be the Central California Writers Project, an outgrowth of the National Writing Project. Along with my journalism degree, it launched me into a number of writing ventures, including this website.

Current projects in motion:

  1. a website in which I post excerpts of book in progress, with requests for feedback from visitors
  2. a Teachable course as an off-shoot of the above website
  3. sets of eCards for sale
  4. a tongue-in-cheek look at first dates [ebook]
  5. a second Writing Warmups book–this one intended for an older audience
  6. I have another website      wordinventions.blog .

While I could name special kids, colleagues, and parents for each of those 23 terms, my favorite years were 1981-82 [grade 5] 1983-84 [middle school, yeah, I can’t believe I just wrote that. ;-)] and 1984-85 [grade six]. I really did enjoy all my years as a fourth grade teacher—1988-1995. Grade 4 was definitely in my wheelhouse.

And if you’d like a free copy of my book of 1000 writing prompts, just fill out this form.

[It includes 20 ways a teacher might use them in a classroom setting.]
